1. The Best Travel Nursing Recruiters based on:
- Their Friendliness and Customer Service.
- Responsiveness to your questions.
- Efficiency and Organization.
- Experience as a recruiter.
- Anticipation of your needs.
Over the years I've found my favorite recruiters by networking on various forums, social networking sites, or assignments then contacting and dealing with the Travel Nursing Recruiters which is the true test over time.
2. The Best Travel Nursing Companies based on:
- Benefits they have.
- Selection of Travel Nursing Jobs.
- Reputation among other Travelers.
You really do need more than one Great Travel Nursing Company because they all don't share the same assignments as I have heard many misinformed people state.
Also having more than one company gives you more leverage and confidence in negotiations.
My article questions to ask has a detailed list of questions to ask regarding Travel Nursing Company Benefits and Travel Nurse Assignment details.
3. Organize all your employment info so you can act quickly.
Obviously the more ready you are the faster you can pounce on a Travel Nursing Job opportunity.
For more detail see my article on Travel Nursing Applications & Documents .
4. Communicate with your favorite Travel Nurse Recruiters:
- Who you are.
- What exactly you want.
- What special needs you have.
- Be brief and to the point.
- Ongoing questions and answers kept in created email folders.
Always stay in touch and try and keep a good relationship with all your favorite recruiters because you will need them in the future.
Put them on your email safe list and/or check your junk mail folder. Respond promptly.
5. Negotiate Negotiate Negotiate:
- Create a deal yourself and then sell it.
- Look for win/win situations.
- Be up front about what you want and need.
- The contract needs to contain all deals made.
- Make sure the actual manager is reading from the same script.
As a permanent healthcare professional you were use to accepting many things and adjusting. Now it's time to switch hats and be a business person.
Be calm. Not all negotiations happen in an instant. Keep an open and ongoing discussion. Be assertive and confident. Save aggressiveness as a last resort.
Again having more than one company gives you leverage, confidence and more opportunities to choose from.
Warning:
I have seen a number of websites start up allowing you to apply at multiple companies at the same time and offer superficial info on Travel Nursing and I had even tried a few with very mixed results.
The thing is you know nothing of these Travel Nursing Companies and even if you did you don't know what Recruiter you may end up with.
They may even be a decent Travel Nursing Company but you could get stuck with a terrible or inexperienced Travel Nurse Recruiter and it can be a hassle switching recruiters within the same company.
If you don't do some research you could end up out of the frying pan and into the fire with a worse recruiter.
Also be careful on the forums in getting referrals from other Travel Nurses.
Make sure you check their history on the forum and reputation. Sometimes it can be a Recruiter posing as a Traveler which I've seen.
I encourage you to do your own research and use this website and others I've found useful that I link to and believe in.
If you have any questions contact me here or leave a comment.
Good Luck! and Happy Travels....
