What You Need to Know About Licensing

Every state has its own unique requirements, timeline, and costs. If you’re remaining in your home state, that’s all you need to know. However, if you intend to travel, you may need to research the requirements in other states or determine if they are members of the NLC. 

What Is the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)?

Some states are members of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). NLC makes it easier for nurses to travel and practice across state lines. 

With a compact license, RNs and LPNs can practice in multiple states using a single multistate license. A compact license is not required to travel to a member state.

For travel nurses, the NLC can save valuable time, reduce costs, and cut down on paperwork. Instead of applying for a separate license in each state, you can work in any of the 40-plus compact states with one multistate license—if your primary residence is in a participating NLC state.
